This website was put together to provide a consolidated location for local youth sports, including Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Roller Hockey, Softball, Competition Soccer, Competition Baseball, Traveling Soccer, International Soccer. If sites were available I would also like to add things like Basketball, Snowboarding, Snowboarding Teams, Skiing, or other snow sports. Although this isn't exactly related, camping information would be nice to add - especially children friendly camping locations. This site is specific to the local youth sports and schools for children in Eastern Contra Costa County and surrounding communities.
The best baseball links include Delta Baseball League (formerly known as Delta Peanut League) youth baseball and softball, East County Little League youth baseball and softball, Babe Ruth youth baseball and softball. Pony league youth baseball and softball is growing and seems to have tremendous support - several new lighted facilities have been installed at the sunset youth sports complex on Sunset road. Oh, and don't forget these leagues to employ youth empires - and the best part is they are paid positions. Most of these leagues do allow high school age students to participate after their high school seasons are over. There are several traveling youth baseball teams, the Senators, are among them. The Delta Dawgs are also a traveling youth competition baseball league. There are other youth traveling competition baseball and softball leagues in the area that are not on this site yet.
The youth football leagues which have been around the longest are members of the Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference, including AYF, Deer Valley Youth Football, East County Youth Football, and WP Youth Football. These leagues practice at the high schools. There are new leagues, Pop Warner, etc. that have cropped up at some of the other high schools like Freedom High and Heritage High. The Diablo Youth Valley Football Conference cuts kids the other leagues don't. The other leagues at Freedom High and Heritage High seem to be getting more popular with the youths. There is a city run flag football leagues. There are flag football clubs/teams in the middle schools.
The biggest soccer leagues in the area are Delta Youth Soccer League and East Diablo Youth Soccer League. These leagues are both huge. Some cities have run out of facilities for the their leagues to grow, like Delta Youth Soccer League - this is a big problem and kids are getting left behind. EDYSL's home city has opened the Sunset Sports Complex in 2005 for baseball, softball, and soccer. The Sunset sports complex has 4 lighted full size soccer fields, 1 exclusive for competition soccer with bleachers (yup bleachers for youth soccer). This is a huge bonus for all soccer youths in the area - making EDYSL the preferred soccer league facilities.
It is a huge bonus to our community that so many webmasters have put together their own websites focused on youth sports in our area. Especially the Baseball, Football, and Soccer websites. The youth Roller Hockey sites are somewhat under transition until the new Hockey rink is opened (hopefully). The new Roller Hockey building is rumored to include facilities for other indoor youth sports such as volleyball or basketball.
I wasn't able to find any sites on basketball or volleyball. I didn't include links to karate since they seem to be changing quite frequently and they are usually for profit anyway. Of course, roller hockey is for profit but considering the cost of the facilities - I'm glad to include links to their youth roller hockey sites. I don't know anything about gymnastics, ballet, or dancing. I'm pretty much focused on the mainstream boys youth sports such as baseball, soccer, and football.
In the last few years the middle schools have started fielding soccer teams, I can't seem to find any sites with information on youth soccer leagues sponsored by the school districts. From my experience, these school sponsored youth soccer teams are gaining popularity each year. Right now the schools seem to have 1 team per school - it would be nice if they were able to field one team per grade so more kids could participate in soccer. Of course, the high schools have football, soccer, baseball, and other mainstream sports. I have heard there are school youth clubs for skiing and snowboarding but I don't have any information on those sports. The middle schools have also started school basketball and track teams. There seems to be a grass roots effort in the public schools to bring back youth sports to the middle schools.
Unfortunately, with the rapid growth in youth population in the east county, some of the cities have not kept up and the sports teams have been fighting for field space. Some cities, on the other hand, has taken a proactive approach by building many new facilities. These new facilities include several new lighted soccer and baseball fields. Some cities have planned to expand their youth sports facilities for several years with new soccer fields and parking lots - unfortunately it hasn't happened for many many years. Our largest city has no lighted soccer fields.
